Fifth-seeded Juan Martin Del Potro blasted his way through his ATP Finals group stage match against the seventh-seeded Fernando Verdasco.

The group stage finals are taking place in London, and have seen some heavy hitters show up to stake their claim on the contest, as well as boost their rankings. The score was 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), and the final set was particularly sticky for the Argentinean, who allowed Verdasco to come back from 5-2.

This mini comeback brought Verdasco, who is from Spain, to a 5-5 tipping point, from which Del Potro worked hard to rescue the match. The dramatic match has left Verdasco at the bottom of the Group A section without a win to his name.

Del Potro, quoted by Bloomberg.com, said: "It wasn't easy, I'm very happy, it's great."

Del Potro expects a tougher time ahead, due to the fact that he knows he will have to play exceptionally well to make the semi-finals. Del Potro will play Roger Federer in his next match, meaning that he will certainly face a test. Federer is on at 1.41 to beat Del Potro, according to Betfair.com.
