Australia denied grand slam by last-gasp Ireland
Posted on November 16th 2009 by
Australia saw their chances of a grand slam tour fly between the posts in Dublin but can look forward to a game against Scotland in which they have been rated overwhelming favourites.
Sunday's rugby union test against Croke Park saw the Wallabies denied a victory by a late Brian O'Driscoll try and a conversion from Ronan O'Gara.
However, Australia can draw plenty of positives from a 20-20 draw in which they were rated as marginal outsiders ahead of the kick-off.
Next up come Scotland at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, on Saturday, with the hosts at 5.50 and the visitors rated 1.12 with Betfair.
However, the home side will go into the game with added confidence following a 23-10 win over Fiji over the weekend.
The result was a first-up win for new coach Andy Robinson, who said he was impressed with the way his side started the match.
Quoted by The People, he said: "I was really pleased to get a victory and the rugby we produced in the opening 35 minutes.
"However, we played in fits and starts for most of the second half."
He added he felt Scotland would need to be "at least 15 per cent better" to stand a chance of overcoming the Wallabies next Saturday.
