Early betting for the 2013 rugby league World Cup has Australia already way out in front following their Four Nations victory.

The Kangaroos overcame England 46-16 at Elland Road earlier this month and performed well throughout the tournament, bar a surprise draw with New Zealand.

The online rugby league market at Sportsbet is already taking bets for the competition, to be held in the UK.

Australia are 1.25 to win the tournament, with New Zealand, the 2008 winners, on 5.50 and second favourites.

Following their strong showing in the Four Nations, England are on 6.50.

Odds after this stretch straight to 101.00 for Samoa, while France, who finished last in the Four Nations, are on the same odds.

The prices then keep on getting bigger with Lebanon and Ireland at 251.00, with both Scotland and Wales on a massive 331.00 apiece.

In other developments for the Kangaroos, veteran Darren Lockyer may not walk away from the side after all.

Australia coach Tim Sheens said the 32-year-old, who still has two more seasons to go with club side Brisbane, was unlikely to go on tour to the likes of England again but may still play for the national side next year.
