NRL Round 7 matches and betting odds after Melbourne Storm betting scandal.

The now well documented action taken by the NRL has will have a huge impact on the Round 7 and NRL futures betting, Indeed, it seems that the bookies were the first to know about the scandal, when a flood of money came in for The Storm to win the wooden spoon whilst they were outright favourites in the futures betting!

Often in sport, such scandals as this, match rigging, non triers in horse racing, impending player bans (the list goes on) are brought to public attention by "insiders" placing big bets. It seems in this case a disgruntled former employee or whistleblower tried to cash in on the inside knowledge. But online bookies can smell a rat from a mile away. If punters are backing a team of Melbourne's class to finish bottom of the ladder in droves, something is not right.

Greed is often the problem with punters trying to take advantage of inside information. And it appears in this case there were plenty of people trying to get rich quick.

Melbourne Storm face New Zealand Warriors this sunday at The Etihad Stadium. Bookies have suspened betting. Probably a wise thing!
The real problem facing NRL punters for the rest of the season is that we have no idea how much motivation The Sorm will have for the games - even if they win every game between now and the end of the season, they will still have 0 points. Which seems a ludicrous way to go for The NRL, with or without betting.
