The Scottish rugby team upset the odds over the weekend by beating the Australian team for the first time in 28 years.

The landmark victory - one that will have stumped many betting fans - happened after a game that saw Australia miss some crucial chances against a team that rarely gives them trouble.

Australian flyhalf Matt Giteau missed a key injury time conversion, sending his attempt wide.

The Australia captain was banking on Giteau supplying the conversion.

Quoted by the New York Times, Rocky Elsom said: "The error rate was something that really hurt us. If I was going to give a crucial kick to anyone, it would be Matt. He's our kicker and he's the best we've got."

In the fifth minute a lineout infringement went against the Scottish players, giving the Australians a lead.

Australia dominated for large patches of the game, but it was a series of missed chances that would prove to be their downfall.

Elsom almost scored a try at one point, but he was prevented from putting the ball down, although he believed he had made enough pressure on the ball for a try.

Australia are now on odds of 2.00 to overcome Wales in their next test at Cardiff on Saturday, compared to 2.60 for the hosts with Betfair.
