Tipping kicks off for sell-out NRL grand final
Posted on September 30th 2009 by Pom de Turf
Sunday's sell-out NRL grand final between Melbourne Storm and Parramatta Eels could be a battle of fine margins, according to tipsters.
NRL betting fans will be wondering this week whether to go with the legacy-chasing Storm, looking for a second premiership in four years, or underdogs The Eels, who are looking to break a dry spell stretching back to 1986.
Current NRL betting markets at Betfair have Melbourne as the favourites, on 1.66, while Parramatta stand on 2.46 with the same bookmaker.
Fox Sports expert The Adjudicator reckons "if the Storm cracks the Eels’ defence and (Jarryd) Hayne is outshone on the biggest stage of all, they’ll claim the title as the curtain is pulled down".
But the Eels Joe Galuvao hopes his side are ones who have the edge at the ANZ stadium.
He told the club's official website: "If anything a grand final is about intensity and commitment and the team that comes out and shows those two things at the beginning of the game are going to go a long way to winning it."
History shows Melbourne Storm have 12 head-to-head victories to The Eels' nine, while Melbourne also have the edge in the last 10 head-to-head ties, winning seven to Parramatta's three.
