Australia take on World Cup 2010 contenders Holland
Posted on October 9th 2009 by
Australia face one of the favourites in the betting for World Cup 2010 when they take on the Netherlands in Saturday's friendly international.
The Netherlands are a 13.00 shot with Sportsbet having already qualified for South Africa, while Australia are at 51.00 to triumph in football's biggest competition.
Sydney Football Stadium is the venue for the visit of the Dutch, who are seen as one of the big guns of international football despite never lifting the sport's biggest prize.
However, they are currently ranked third in the world by Fifa and can call on a wealth of attacking talent.
Socceroos boss Pim Verbeek has said the Asian Cup qualifier against Oman on Wednesday remains the priority, meaning big names could be replaced early on Saturday.
"During the game I will find out which players start to get tired or maybe which players I need to save for Wednesday's game, so that's a decision I have to make", he said.
Australia are the outsiders to beat the Oranje on Saturday, on 4.25 with Sportsbet, while the visitors are on 1.85 to secure a victory. The draw is at odds of 3.30.
