England reach Four Nations final but Kangaroos still favourites
Posted on November 9th 2009 by
England's Four Nations odds have plummeted after a bruising win over New Zealand propelled them into the final against Australia.
Bookmakers previously rated the Kiwis as more likely to face the Kangaroos in the final, with England out at 22.50 with Betfair at one stage.
Following their 20-12 victory over New Zealand England are now on 6.60 to beat favourites Australia on Saturday, although past history suggests they face a massive task.
Australia won a nervy game against France in Paris to confirm their passage to the final but can be confident given their 16-26 win over England earlier in the tournament.
However, England coach Toiny Smith said his side would be out to finally conquer the Kangaroos.
"That was part of our motivation to get through, we wanted another crack at Australia," he said.
"We wanted to put together a better half than we did last time and give ourselves a chance."
Despite England's win over New Zealand, Betfair still rates them as the 1.17 favourites for Saturday's final at Elland Road in Leeds.
Throughout the competition the Kangaroos have never drifted further than around 1.36 and have dropped further following their 4-42 win over France.
