World Cup betting odds are against an Argentina win
Posted on October 14th 2009 byArgentina are on world cup odds of 3.10 to beat Uruguay tonight and finally seal a place in South Africa next year.
Diego Maradona's side managed a 2-1 win over Peru on Saturday thanks to a last-minute goal from Martin Palermo.
The result set up the winner-takes-all clash in Montevideo tonight, with the loser likely to drop into a play-off place in the South American qualifying group.
A draw is enough for Argentina to clinch automatic qualification, so Uruguay will be all out for the three points in what will be a hostile atmosphere at the 76,000-capacity Centenario Stadium.
Betfair is offering world cup odds of 3.40 for the draw, while a win for Uruguay is at 2.54.
Despite heated criticism over his team selection, Maradona has vowed to give everything to get his side to the finals, saying last month: "As long as I have a drop of blood left, I will fight to get Argentina qualified."
However, Ecuador, who play Chile tonight, can pinch the playoff place if they beat Chile and either Argentina or Uruguay fail to secure at least a point.
Betfair is offering odds of 3.05 for Ecuador to put themselves in with a shout by beating Chile away from home tonight.
