Betfair has Portugal and France as odds-on to qualify for next year's World Cup after the draw for the qualification play-offs.

Both sides struggled through their preliminary groups to end up in second and face Bosnia and the Republic of Ireland respectively.

The draw for the play-offs was a controversial one after Fifa decided at the last minute it would be seeded, meaning higher-ranking teams avoided facing each other.

Portugal are on odds of 1.31 to triumph in their two-legged tie with Bosnia, while France are on 1.37 to overcome the Republic of Ireland via the home and away fixtures.

The first legs see Portugal at home and France away, on November 14, while the return legs are to be played on November 18.

France finished second to Serbia in their group, while Portugal were behind Denmark and held off Sweden to clinch a play-off spot.

France coach Raymond Domenech has said his team will know what to expect from outsiders Ireland: "The goal was always to qualify for the World Cup, whoever we faced. We know Ireland. They're very much like England, they all play in the Premier League," he said.

Ireland and France last met during the qualification run to the 2006 World Cup, where they shared a 0-0 draw in Paris before France won 1-0 in Ireland.

In the other European play-off fixtures, Greece face Ukraine while Russia come up against Slovenia.
