Aussies upset the odds to claim series against India
Posted on November 10th 2009 by
Australia could be ready to finally rest some of their high-profile stars in Mumbai on Wednesday after tying up the ODI series against India on Sunday.
A six-wicket win in Guwahati took the side into an unassailable 4-2 lead in the series after a spectacular bowling performance.
Ricky Ponting's team had to overcome unfavourable online cricket betting odds to comeback from a 2-1 scoreline earlier in the series.
The win is even more remarkable given Australia lost several key players to injuries throughout the series, including bowlers Brett Lee and Peter Siddle.
After a pulsating year which has included an Ashes Series against England and victory in the ICC Champions' Trophy, a number of other players could be rested for Wednesday's final series tie in Mumbai.
As a result the bookmakers feel India are more likely to wrap up a win on the final day, with Sportsbet rating them 1.70 favourites ahead of the tourists on 2.15.
Ponting said of his side's remarkable series win: "For the boys to stick together as a group and play as a team of 11 players for the last few games has been very satisfying.
"India is a hard place to come and win and this victory means a lot, especially when you haven't got all your players to pick from."
