AFL Round 8 Matches And Betting Odds
Posted on May 11th 2010 by TJ Dilfer
AFL Round 8 Fixtures, previews, betting odds and tips;
Friday, May 14
Fremantle vs Collingwood @ Subiaco, Perth. 8:40pm
The Pies head to Freo in a mouth watering Friday night clash which will provide a stern test for Collingwood, the current $4.50 2nd favourites for the AFL flag. Fremantle are one of the most impressive sides around, much improved and showing great consistency. Both sides are 7-1 at the top of the AFL ladder and the bookies make the Pies slight favourites at $1.86 for the Subiaco clash. This is too close too call, so just sit back and enjoy.
Saturday, May 15
Melbourne vs West Coast @ MCG, Melbourne. 2:10pm
3-4 Melbourne host 2-5 West Coast at the MCG on Saturday, and the bookies see this as a home banker. Sportsbet quote Melbourne at $1.37 to bounce back from their very close defeat to The Western Bulldogs in Round 7, which was a great effort. West Coast edged out Hawthorn last week, but this is much tougher. The bookies have this about right. Home win, in convincing style.
Bulldogs vs Sydney @ Manuka Oval, Canberra. 2:10pm
No matter what Sydney do, it still doesn't really convince the bookies or the pundits. I am more generous, and have profited throughout the season by backing the Swans at some crazy prices. Especially against the teams from the South. This is no different; The Swans are 5-2 and have played some tough games. The Western Bulldogs are 4-3, and are a good side, but I'll go with the Swans at $1.92 with a 6.5 points start with Sportsbet.
Brisbane vs Geelong @ Gabba, Brisbane.7:10pm
Geelong head north in fine form and with the tag of outright $3.75 favourites for the AFL Flag - the shortest price any team has been this year. Brisbane have flattered to deceive this year, and although placed only just outside the main challengers on 4-3, The Cats will be too tough. In fact, even on the road, Geelong have the look of Champions again. Make them a betting banker for your mutlis this week.
North Melbourne vs Adelaide @ Etihad Stadium, Melbourne. 7:10pm
Adelaide crawled out of the joint basement position last week, eventually, but this will be tougher. This should be a scrappy game at the Etihad, and a close one, so take a look at Addelaide with a 10.5pts start on the handicap. The odds are $1.92 with IASbet.
Sunday , May 16
Richmond vs Hawthorn @ MCG, Melbourne. 1:10pm
We actually tipped up Richmond last week, and lived with some hope for an hour or so. Back to reality here, they are $5.00 outsiders at home against an average team. Which says a lot about Richmond. And a bit about Hawthorn too. Leave this alone for betting purposes though.
Port Adelaide vs Carlton @ AAMI Stadium, Adelaide. 3:10pm
This is a tough one to call, and the bookies also think so. Sportsbet have Port Adelaide priced up as home favourites at $1.82, with Carlton at a flat $2.00. The latter absolutely thumped St Kilda last week, and this will be close. Take Carlton to go into this clash with maximum confidence and emerge with the points - it wont be easy though.
St Kilda vs Essendon @ Etihad Stadium, Melbourne. 4:40pm
After last week's performance we shouldn't really be considering including the Saints at restrictive odds of $1.40. However, as the old adage goes, class is permanent and form is temporary. And St Kilda are still a top outfit. Essendon were just edged out of it last week, but they should be no match for a Saints side that is hurting badly. Include St Kilda in this week's multis.
