Barrier draw may not bar King and Predatory Pricer

Jockey Steven King will be looking to clinch his second Caulfield Cup victory in 20 years when he pilots Predatory Pricer on Saturday.

The horse is currently on odds of 8.50 with Centrebet having briefly held the favourite tag after it was announced Speed Gifted would not appear in the $2.5 million race.

But King and Predatory Pricer face a tricky test in the 2400m race thanks to a barrier draw of 16.

However the horse looked impressive in finishing a close second in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington last month and King has said he could have enough to win on Saturday.

Quoted by the Melbourne Racing Club website, he said: "I think his Turnbull run was great. His weight-for-age form is very good and dropping back to handicap conditions, he's going to be very competitive.

"If things go right in the race and we get a bit of luck and you always need luck, I’m sure he’ll be very hard to beat."

Despite the less-than-perfect barrier draw, King could still weave some magic with Predatory Pricer.

The veteran jockey has ended up in the placings twice from barrier 17 – winning with Let's Elope in 1991 and coming second with Grey Song in 2003.
