Winx will have 2 rivals to beat in the Caulfield Stakes on Saturday as she looks to extend her winning run to 12.

Seven horses were originally nominated for the Caulfield Stakes Group 1, but only Black Heart Bart and He Or She will face the gauntlet thrown down by Winx.

Hugh Bowman took Winx for a gallop at Caulfield on Wednesday morning and was more than happy with her work.

The field for the Caulfield Cup was released at 9:30 am Wednesday morning and trainer Waller had no concerns over the small field.

"It makes it easier in terms of interference, there is always an element of luck involved with racing but it will be a quality field," Waller said.

"The horses that are there deserve to be, it shouldn't really affect her though, pace wise, fast or slow she is adaptable so I'm not too concerned."

Jockey Bowman is also unfazed by the small field and will be riding Winx with the Cox Plate in mind and making sure she is on point of the big race in a few weeks.

"Tactics go out the window I feel a little bit with the small field, I can just be where I'm comfortable," he said.

"I don't have to worry about being too far back, I don't care if I lead or sit outside the leader although I wouldn't expect to be there.

"In the small field I can sit last and only be spotting the horses a couple of lengths.

"It takes the pressure off as far as riding her goes but in saying that I am mindful she has a big task ahead, regardless of this Saturday.

"If there is three or four runners, I am mindful she has to race at a premium to make sure she is ready for the main event in the Cox Plate in a couple of weeks' time."

Bowman travelled back to Sydney after the morning gallop but will return on Friday and remain in Melbourne for the rest of the Spring Carnival.

"It was a pretty casual gallop this morning, just basically stretched her legs and let her have a look around the track," he said.

"She did her main piece of work on Saturday morning in company, I was pleased with her then and she has travelled down well.

"She is ready to go, she is very alert, I noticed that before I got on her, in a new environment, she had the ears pricked."

When asked about the potential clash with Hartnell in the Cox Plate, Bowman replied

"I'm going to be more confident taking him on with Winx than Preferment, can't be disrespectful of how he has performed," he said.

"He is obviously in good shape, very worthy rival going in to the Cox Plate.

"You would imagine they would run in the Cox Plate, I will be surprised if they don't."

Winx is currently priced at $2.00 for the Cox Plate.
