Wednesday's 2200m $150,000 Bendigo Cup in Victoria has been described as a race of many chances with a number of strong contenders tipped to take the field.

New Zealand pair Capecover and Gallions Reach are headline runners, placed by Centrebet at 5.50 and 61.00 respectively.

Ranked 25th and 27th in the Melbourne Cup’s order of entry, the pair share the top weight of 59kg.

In response to concerns over Capecover’s fitness, trainer Alexander Fieldes has assured Racing Victoria Ltd Stewards that his Melbourne Cup prospect is fit to run.

Acting chairman for stewards Peter Ryan recently confirmed Capecover will undergo a veterinary examination upon his arrival at Bendigo, following comments made by Fieldes about the horse’s tender feet.

Fieldes counters Capecover is 100 per cent fit and will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy who has drawn barrier 19. Craig Newitt takes Gallions Reach in barrier six.

Other contenders include consistent runner Ulysses, Queensland’s Crossthestart, Lee Freedman’s Marchelle Belle and promising four-year-olds Big Col and Pento Diablo.

In a bid to increase his trophy collection, super-trainer Bart Cummings has entered Joe Blow.
