Climbing the Melbourne Cup betting tree

Vigor remains at the top of the early Melbourne Cup betting for the
second week in a row, on a solid 8.00 with Centrebet.

The Makybe Diva Stakes winner has been popular in markets for some time
and has also attracted interest for the Caulfield Cup.

Statistics at Betfair show the horse's Melbourne Cup odds have been
dropping steadily for a while, with a rush of cash recorded after his
Makybe Diva Stakes win last month.

The same bookmaker has Efficient as the second favourite on 14.50 and
Profound Beauty on 16.50.

Vigor trainer Danny O'Brien said in the Herald Sun of the horse's recent
progress: "In the back of my mind I thought he might be a Cups horse in
18 months. We tested him through those races last spring and summer.

"It was just the way he kept doing things, he was so relaxed and doing
them so easily. "

Horses which have made some interesting moves include Zarita, which
started at 200.00, climbed as high as 475.00 and is now on 300.00.

Other notable odds include 40.00 for Kirlees, 42.00 for Capecover and
19.00 for viewed.

Vigor is also still at the top of the October 17 Caulfield Cup betting,
on 6.60 with Betfair, way ahead of Daffodil on 11.50 and Predatory
Pricer, on 12.00.
