Denman tops Caulfield Guineas betting after barrier draw
Posted on October 7th 2009 by
One of the most gripping racing showdowns of the year looks set to take place on Saturday after the barrier draw for the Caulfield Guineas.
Star colts Denman and Trusting will face each other in the biggest group 1 race of the spring so far, with the former going from barrier seven and the latter jumping from 10.
Saturday's 1600m run also features Manhattan Rain and So You Think, completing a quartet of superstar runners in a 10-horse field.
All four were out on courses on Tuesday being put through their paces ahead of the $1 million event.
Current horse racing markets at Sportingbet have Denman as the favourite on odds of 2.70, followed by second favourite Trusting on 4.40.
Trusting's connections will be hoping a promising second to Demerit in the Guineas Prelude is transformed into a victory, while Denman is currently on six wins on the bounce.
Manhattan Rain is currently a 5.50 shout with the same bookmaker, while So You Think is on 9.00.
Manhattan Rain trainer Gai Waterhouse should be in confident mood following a double group 1 win with other charges at the weekend and a good run-out for the star colt on Tuesday.
She revealed on her website: "He (Manhattan Rain) had a good blow and definitely needed the hitout but the style and strength of his work was excellent.
"I trotted him up at the stalls as is my custom and he looked free in his action and was bright as a button."
