Efficient rattles Melbourne Cup betting markets
Posted on October 5th 2009 by
Former Melbourne Cup winner Efficient could be on for a repeat this spring after storming to an impressive win in the Turnbull Stakes.
The grey galloped to odds of 7.50 and now stands as the favourite for the November 3 spectacular, edging out Vigor, who slipped to 17.00 after the weekend.
Sportingbet also has odds of 8.00 for Speed Gifted, who claimed victory in The Metropolitan at Randwick on Saturday.
Trainer Lee Freedman said: "He's got that extra something, he can stay and he's got a good turn of foot at the end of his races - the exact make-up you want coming into a Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.''
Viewed is on 13.00 and Cest La Guerre stands on 15.00, level with Profound Beauty.
Gai Waterhouse's Rock Kingdom also shook up Saturday's horse racing at Randwick, holding on to win the 1600m Epsom Handicap.
The trainer is also behind Viking Legend, who claimed the Dulcify Quality, also at Randwick, on Saturday, and works with Caulfield Guineas chance Manhattan Rain.
Waterhouse has never claimed a Caulfield Guineas and faces tough competition on Saturday from outstanding colts Denman and Trusting.
