English Premier League betting odds and tips - 2010/11

Chelsea ended Manchester United’s three year reign as Premier League champions in flamboyant style by becoming the first team in Premier League history to score 100 goals in a season. This season they will be rejoined by Newcastle and West Bromwich Albion who won automatic promotion from The Championship and also Premier League newcomers Blackpool.

But, can an ageing Chelsea squad continue to prosper for another season? Or, will Arsene Wenger find the right blend of youth and experience to regain the title that Arsenal last won in 2004? Or can Manchester United put their off-field problems to one side in order to regain their number one status?

Chelsea have already released Joe Cole, Michael Ballack and Julian Belleti from their squad and are expected to replace them with some younger and fresher blood. They also face a battle to keep Frank Lampard at the club with new Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho said to be keen on taking the England midfielder to the Beranbeau.

Manchester United have already added the impressive Mexican youngster Javier Hernandez to their squad whilst Arsenal have brought in Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh and are keen to bring in a new goalkeeper.

Centrebet make Chelsea favourites to retain the title at odds of $2.35 with Manchester United at $2.88 and Arsenal $7.00.

At the other end of the table Blackpool look to have their work cut out if they are to turn their first ever season in the Premier League into a positive experience. It will take a few shrewd summer signings from manager Ian Holloway to build a team and squad that can be competitive over the course of an entire Premier League season. Bet365.com have Blackpool as short as $1.30 to be relegated and it is difficult to argue with that assessment at this stage.

West Bromwich Albion ($1.80), Wolves ($3.25), Wigan ($3.25) and Newcastle ($3.75) are all also likely to be involved in a relegation scrap according to Bet365.com

Wigan’s short odds are based chiefly on their poor showing last season, but they were undergoing a largely transitional season under new manager Roberto Martinez and you can expect them to be well clear of any trouble this season. Newcastle amicably reassembled a squad capable of comfortably achieving promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, but that squad consists of a lot of Championship players who have yet to prove themselves at the highest level. There is a real danger that they could end up being immensely out of their depth and with very little money to spend they are a good value bet to be relegated back to The Championship.

Last season was one of the most exciting Premier League seasons on record with the title, the race for fourth place and relegation all producing memorable battles. Here’s hoping for another season that is just as memorable and exhilarating for all the right reasons.
