Cannonball set to blow Lightning Stakes wide open.

Top American racer Cannonball is heading for Australia, ready for a crack at a big Melbourne race.

The horse is to contest the Sha Tin race in Hong Kong on December 13, before travelling to Australia. Cannonball surprised everyone at Royal Ascot in the summer, and many people are anxious to see how he will do when he arrives on Australian soil.

There was some concern when he was found to be suffering from an elevated temperature soon after arriving in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Jockey Club's International Racing Manager Mark Player was quick to allay fears about the health of the horse.

Quoted on Racingandsports.com, Player said: "A bit of temperature after a long flight is all it was." Player added more calming words, assuring the media that Cannonball was to have some vaccinations to help with his recovery. Cannonball is in line to make an appearance at the Lightning Stakes at Flemington in February 2010.
