David and Luke Henderson, the Gold Coast based real estate tycoons, have been celebrating their victory in the Caulfield Cup after their galloper Descardo won the $2.5 million race at the recent meeting.

The Henderson brothers became serious contenders on the racing scene when they had shares in Golden Slipper-winning two-year-old Sebring in 2007. They run the Professionals at Mermaid Beach and now have Descardo’s potential firmly in their sights when they head for the Melbourne Cup with the Gai Waterhouse trained gelding.

The brothers purchased majority shares in Descardo from Waterhouse's husband Robbie.

Descardo’s jockey Chris Munce made it a fairytale victory after producing the perfect ride narrowly defeating New Zealander Harris Tweed in a blistering finish, with Monaco Consul coming in third. Munce, who hails from the NSW northern rivers, made international headlines when he was jailed in Hong Kong for tipping horses in 2006.

Descarado is now a $13.00 poke for the Melbourne Cup.
