Trained in the UK by Marco Botti, Mount Athos has been a regular visitor to Flemington in the last couple of years and has twice finished in the top five places. Arguably unlucky in both 2012 and 2013 when finding traffic problems, Mount Athos has the class to win the Melbourne Cup given a bit of luck and a better ride.
Mount Athos is owned by Dr Marwan Koukash who recently moved the horse away from Luca Cumani into the yard of international racing specialist Marco Botti.
Since running third of 24 runners in the 2013 Melbourne Cup, Mount Athos has raced at Sha Tin and Meydan (twice). When running in Australia Mount Athos is most commonly partnered by local jockey Craig Williams.
Mount Athos has won over $1M in career prize money and has a definite each way chance in the 2014 Melbourne Cup.
