 Trainer Charlie Appleby has confirmed that the Godolphin-owned Scottish will bet heading to Australia to run in either the Cox Plate or Mackinnon after an impressive win the weekend.

Scottish went off 10/11 favourite in Saturdays bet365 Stakes at Newbury. Jockey James Doyle took Scottish straight to the front and set a good pace from the start. They were happy to bowl along at the front throughout the race and once they reached the business end, Scottish was able to turn the screw and was never really challenged, winning by 1 3/4 lengths.

After the race Doyle said "He's a lovely horse and I'm pleased with that. He bounced off the ground and enjoyed himself out in front. I wound him up through the gears and he quickened away well

"It's nice when you have the horse that can do it that way. You just enjoy the ride."

Appleby said: "James gave him a lovely ride from the front. We knew there was no pace in the race.

"A great performance and we came here very confident. We were delighted with his run at Sandown and he's come on for that."

He added: "The plan was always potentially to go to Australia with him. How we get there, if he has another run beforehand we'll see, but he's going for the Cox Plate or the Mackinnon, two races down there, and may be joined by Tryster.

"He's had a lovely trip round there today and enjoyed himself. He travelled well and picked up well enough."

Scottish certainly looked to have plenty more in the tank and will be a major player in either race.
