Jockeys looking to break the group 1 barrier in the Toorak

Two jockeys are going for their first-ever group 1 victories in one of the major sideshows to Saturday's Caulfield Guineas.

Christine Puls and Dom Tourneur have both travelled to Caulfield in the hope of claiming a win in the $353,000 Toorak Handicap.

Puls, whose biggest success to date is a group 3 win in the 2005 Hobart Cup, is on Tears I Cry, on odds of 101.00 with Centrebet.

According to the official website of Melbourne Racing Club, Tourneur is piloting Magical Pearl having already ridden in 10 group 1 runs in South Australia without a victory.

Magical Pearl is on odds of 21.00, again with Centrebet, with the favourite for the 1600m run Raheeb at 5.50 with the same bookmaker.

Elsewhere in the field trainer Bart Cummings could send Allez Wonder through to the Caulfield Cup in seven days, according to The Age.

The winner of the Toorak is afforded free passage to the Cup, although few trainers have taken up the opportunity – it last happened 20 years ago with Cole Diesel, who won both races.

Allez Wonder, a 51.00 shot for the Toorak with Centrebet, is a mare said to have worked well earlier this week with Caulfield Guineas contender So You Think.
