McEvoy to partner Caulfield Cup contender Kirklees

 Jockey Kerrin McEvoy is expected to be confirmed as the rider for Kirklees in the upcoming Caulfield Cup.

The Godolphin stable horse is currently on odds of 12.00 with IASbet for the October 17 showpiece, with Speed Gifted current favourite on 5.50.

Racing Victoria said McEvoy could be sealed to pilot Kirklees today after Frankie Dettori, the stable's premier jockey, was ruled out of the running.

He is needed for stable runners at the Champions Day meeting at Newmarket on the final feature meeting day of the flat racing season in England.

McEvoy already has form for Godolphin in the Cup, riding All The Good to victory in last year's event.

He will ride Kirkless in his last lead-up gallop before the Cup at Sandown after the weekend.

Racing Victoria also said Kirklees and stablemate Crime Scene both had a quiet day at Sandown off the track on Thursday, going for a slow jog over 1200m.

Other odds for the Caulfield Cup include 6.50 for Predatory Pricer and 9.00 for Cima De Triomphe and Vigor.

Cima De Triomphe is also at Sandown and travelling foreman for Luca Cumani, Charlie Henson, said the horse would be more comfortable on "fast going", which could be found at Caulfield on Saturday week, rather than the current softer conditions of Sandown.
