The emergence of Viewed as the narrow favourite is among key developments in the final Melbourne Cup betting markets.

The Bart Cummings-trained 2008 winner has sneaked in front of Alcopop with most bookmakers, with Centrebet rating him at 5.00 to win the $5.5 million race.

Centrebet has Alcopop on 5.50, while the current third favourite is Roman Emperor, another Bart Cummings effort, on 7.00.

Shocking is on 11.00, having drifted to 12.00 and back again, while Daffodil is at 15.00 down from 16.00.

Munsef, one of the leading international chances and trained by England-based Ian Williams, is at 51.00, having drifted from around 40.00.

A clutch of horses stand on 21.00 to 26.00, including Allez Wonder, at 26.00, and C'est La Guerre at 26.00.

The market at Betfair shows just how far some of these horses have come to make the 24-strong field for the 3200m race.

Even in recent days Allez Wonder, who will be ridden by Michelle Payne on Tuesday, has gone from 30.00 to around 45.00 and down to the current price of 34.00.

Viewed is at 5.50, and has stabilised at this price with Betfair after a spike of cash when edging to around 5.70.
