Onemorenomore takes on stablemate in Spring Champion Stakes

 Randwick's bumper horse racing card includes a new path for one-time Caulfield Guineas prospect Onemorenomore.

He will contest the 2000m group 1 Spring Champion Stakes in the 10-race line-up today after finishing third in the 1600m George Main Stakes last weekend.

Trainer John Thompson had hoped Onemorenomore could make the Caulfield Guineas but decided his fate lay elsewhere after he impressed but failed to win last time out.

He will face stablemate Gathering in the small field today, and is on odds of 2.50 for the win, while Gathering stands on 6.50 with Centrebet.

Quoted by AAP earlier this week, Thompson said he and his team were "happy" with Onemorenomore on Saturday but the performance "just wasn't enough to press on to the Caulfield Guineas".

He said: ""He's racing a bit dour and not showing as much dash so we thought we'd go towards Spring Champion through to the Derby."

Current Caulfield Guineas favourite is Denman on 3.30 with IASbet, followed by Trusting on 4.80.

Chris Munce is expected to ride Onemorenomore today while Peter Robl will be on Gathering.

Viking Legend, winner of the Dulcify Quality at Randwick, and trained by Gai Waterhouse, is also due to line up for the Spring Champion stakes.
