The Moe Racecourse
As the largest capacity racecourse in Gippsland, the Moe Racecourse features quite a few premier races including the GPG Mobil Moe Cup worth $130,000. This particular event is held during the Spring Racing Carnival and features Fashions on the Field. Moe Racing Club hosts a number of thoroughbred, hurdle and steeple races throughout the year attracting plenty of local and interstate interest.
An important date in the race calendar at Moe is the Baw Baw Country Cup Day, held in February and featuring two major races: a 1600m handicap race worth $20,000 and the 2050m Open Baw Baw Country Cup worth $40,000. In addition to midweek racing, the racecourse also holds race meets on Melbourne Cup Day, Boxing Day and Anzac Day. The Moe Racecourse ‘Super Jumps Day’ features obstacle races and is held annually in July. Regarded as the Gippsland Grand National Hurdle, the hurdle race is worth $25,000 in prize money whereas the steeple race is worth $30,000. The racetrack hosts 15 races each year and is a relatively small track with a circumference of 1740m and a straight of 300m.
