Scot Andy Murray has emerged as the tennis betting favourite for the Valencia Open 500 after producing a commanding performance on his return from injury.

Murray beat Spaniard Daniel Gimeno -Traver in straight sets on Tuesday and will play Argentinian Leonardo Mayer in the next round.

It was the top seed’s first action for around six weeks after a wrist problem, but after the victory he said he felt happy with the way he eased into the performance.

Murray said: “Since I hadn’t played for a long time, I found it somewhat hard to start. However, I soon started to feel somewhat better.”

Betfair’s online tennis betting market has him on odds of 2.80 to take the tournament, ahead of Nikolay Davydenko, on 2.74.

Tommy Robredo is also through to the next round, with fifth favourite Fernando Verdasco due to play Oscar Hernandez on Wednesday.

Also in action today is Jo-Wilfired Tsonga, rated at 4.80 for the tournament by Betfair.

Other odds available include 8.00 for Giles Simon and Mikhail Youzhny, while Juan Monaco and Guillermo Garcia Lopez are both on 5.10.
