A win in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington tomorrow could cement the Caulfield Cup odds of current favourite Vigor.

He will face several other contenders for the Cup in the 2000m group 1 run tomorrow, including the well-backed Predatory Pricer.

Also in the running is Red Ruler, a New Zealand entry who could benefit from the fact the Turnbull is a set-weights and penalties race.

The rules mean he has something of an advantage compared to how he will line up against rivals in the Caulfield Cup in a fortnight.

Trainer John Sargent has been singing his praises and a stable report earlier this week read: "Red Ruler with Danny Nikolic aboard galloped over a mile with Light Vision on the course proper at Flemington yesterday and galloped extra well.

"Lets hope he gets a start in the Turnbull Stakes as he should be hard to beat on his last run."

Centrebet has Vigor as the 4.75 favourite for tomorrow, closely followed by Predatory Pricer on 5.00 and Maldivian on 6.00, while Red Ruler is on odds of 8.50.

The Turnbull Stakes was first run in 1948, and is named in honour of former Victoria Racing Club chairman Richard Turnbull.
