Yalumba outsider identified by tipster
Posted on October 9th 2009 by
Saturday's Yalumba Stakes may have more betting potential than meets the eye, according to tipsters.
The 2000m race, one of the key build-up races to the Guineas at Caulfield, has seen Whobegotyou dominate the betting, with Betfair rating him a 2.32 chance.
Second favourite is Heart of Dreams on 3.70, while Nom Du Jeu is on 11.50, but Betfair's Kristen Manning has said Douro Valley could be a long shot chance.
She wrote at Betfair.com.au: "Hard to go past the obvious two but, with the privilege of the part owner, I have to steer longshot lovers towards Douro Valley again - just as I did last year.
"He certainly needs to find a bit on his last run but he has become cagier as he has got older and the stable are keen to remind him that he is a racehorse - hence the gear change."
Douro Valley is also already in next weekend's Caulfield Cup, with Betfair offering odds of 220.00, with the favourite still Speed Gifted.
Meanwhile Whobegotyou trainer Mark Kavanagh told Racing and Sports the skills of jockey Damien Oliver could be key in the Yalumba.
"The best ride will win the race, its certainly going to be a tactical race with not a lot of speed" he said.
