Week 3 AFL Matches and betting odds

Sportsbet are again first to release the weekly AFL head to head odds and we take an early preview at the best bets for the next set of matches.

St Kilda v Collingwood betting odds (Etihad Stadium April 9)
We have had St Kilda on our side early in the season, and the ladder toppers and flag favourites face Collingwood, both teams on 2-0. The Pies won by the skin of their teeth over the weekend, and that form is nowhere near good enough to halt The Saints at The Etihad Stadium. Take the 1.53 odds on offer from Sportsbet and make St Kilda the week's bankers, at a value price.

North Melbourne v West Coast betting odds (Etihad Stadium April 10)
North Melbourne were truly humbled by the Saints last week, but there is no disgrace in that. The bookies cannot split these 2 teams, both of whom have yet to win. This game could easily be too bad to get involved with. Pass.

Port Adelaide v Brisbane betting odds (AAMI Stadium April 10)
Both sides are priced at 1.90 for this clash, and with good reason, as both have started this campaign with 2 victories each. Port Adelaide have won their 2 games by a combined total of only 17 points, enough to make me think that the Lions might have too much attacking prowess. Take Brisbane at 1.90 with Sportsbet.

Sydney v Richmond betting odds (SCG April 10)
We made Sydney a good bet last week, at 2.55, and they delivered in style. Richmond are big outsiders here at the SCG, at 7.00 for the win. But even that cannot tempt us. This Sydney team look serious for 2010. No bet.

Carlton v Essendon betting odds (MCG Stadium April 10)
Essendon have not really got started yet, and were heavily beaten against Fremantle last week. Carlton went down at Brisbane, but not by too much. Take Carlton as the best bet here, not great odds at 1.55, but if you're playing multis, then back them alongside St kilda.

Melbourne v Adelaide betting odds (MCG April 11)
This is difficult to weigh up. Melbourne were heroic at huge odds against Collingwood in Round 2, and any repeat of that performance would see them home. I priced this up as a 60 winning chance for Adelaide, but their odds at 1.50 are way too short. Take the sportsbet odds of 2.60 for Melbourne to continue their good form.

Western Bulldogs v Hawthorn betting odds (Etihad April 11)
Hawthorn had Geelong there for the taking last week. And by all accounts, bottled it. Which makes us think that they need to be given a wide berth in future games in terms of betting. Western Bulldogs however, are too short at 1.55. No bet recommended here.

Fremantle v Geelong betting odds (Subiaco April 11)
Geelong were awesome in the 2nd half against Hawthorn. Really strong. So we are going to keep them on our side. They are pretty short at 1.57 at Fremantle (who are 2-0), but The Cats showed their real class last weekend. Take the odds with sportsbet.

In summary, a tight week in the offing for bettors with little "odds against" value. We're going with a treble: St Kilda, Brisbane and Geelong. Combined odds for the treble with sportsbet.com.au pay over $4.50. Get involved!
