AFL: All The Odds For Saturday’s Games

April 30th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

Saturday’s going to be a busy day for the AFL, with five matches to enjoy over the course of the day, and some really good games in prospect, including the pennant favourites Hawthorn against St Kilda and the current ladder leaders Port Adelaide in action against GWS. Round Six was a cracker – and there’s every reason to predict fireworks in Round Seven as well. Make sure you’ve got all your Round Seven odds by clicking the link, and then settle yourself down to enjoy!

When the Hawks meet St Kilda to kick off a full day of AFL action, there will be plenty to keep fans interested. The Hawks had a bit of a wobble when the Cats beat them in Round Five, but they roared back against Richmond, and they’re on the same 20 points as Geelong and the Power. Picking up the points on Saturday will keep the pressure on, and they’re the $1.07 favourites to do just that, but there’s an intriguing sub-plot to watch out for as the miserly Hawks defence looks to cope with Nick Riewoldt, who has been in incredible form this season. Can he pose enough threat to upset St Kilda’s long $8.50 odds? We’ll be watching to see if he can.

GWS are staring down similarly long odds of $8.00 when they go up against ladder leaders Port Adelaide on Saturday, and it looks like they will have a mountain to climb against a Power side that has just claimed that top spot with a win over the Cats. The surge that Port Adelaide have put on will be an inspiration to sides like GWS, who are looking to bounce back from three straight defeats, but it’s a different thing going up against a Power side that averages a tidy 122 points per game in 2014 when GWS have only managed 86 themselves. Expect the Power to bring home the win and justify their odds of $1.08.

For Melbourne, Saturday could be all about picking themselves up off the deck, dusting themselves down and getting stuck back into a season that has started badly for them, with just one win so far. They’re getting odds of $6.80 to grab the win that might kick-start their season, and we reckon they’ll be looking back at their 2011 win over Adelaide for inspiration – they took that one by 96 points! Adelaide, meanwhile, will be looking at this weekend for some easy points, and hoping to delay any sort of Melbourne revival by at least another week. They’re the $1.10 favourites, and the points would maybe take them up into the top eight.

When Sydney and Brisbane meet on Saturday afternoon, we’ll be watching. On the back of their first win of the season against St Kilda last week, the Lions might finally be finding some form, and will be hoping to get past odds of $5.00 to keep the results coming. The Swans have themselves stuttered and spluttered in the early exchanges of 2014, and they’ll be hoping that this is the week they roar to life. Either way, one of these two will be set that little bit better on their way for the 2014 campaign when the dust settles on Saturday – the shorter odds say it will be Sydney at $1.17.

The last of Saturday’s games is the one the bookies have picked as the closest, and it features two more sides who aren’t where they want to be on the ladder. Both Essendon and the Western Bulldogs had disappointing Anzac Day weekends, and they will have to get a win in Round Seven to have any hope of closing in on that top eight. You’re looking at odds of $3.35 for the Bulldogs, and $1.33 for Essendon, but there’s plenty more AFL odds and markets waiting for you if you follow the links: we’ve got all your Round Seven odds covered…
