AFL: Geelong Short Odds To Beat Richmond

April 30th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

This weekend is another busy one in the AFL, with a mouth-watering Saturday schedule after a time-honoured grudge match on Friday night. But don’t forget about Sunday, which offers you up a Western Derby that’s hard to pick, a potential upset when the Suns take on North Melbourne, and a chance for Cats fans to see everything put right with their world after the disappointment of last week. So make sure you’ve got all your Round Seven odds at hand, and get yourself comfortable…

Gold Coast came into the 2014 season with high hopes, and they set the bar high in terms of their final position on the ladder. And they’ve shown promise in the early season – Gary Ablett has, of course, turned in some great performances already. They’re more-or-less where they want to be on the ladder, but will want more points on Sunday to dig themselves into that top eight – it will be a win against the odds at the weekend, but have no doubt at all that the Suns will be aiming to overturn the $4.10 odds they’re getting on Sportsbet right now. For their part, North Melbourne will feel that the favourites tag is justified if they turn up – the side that beat the Dockers looks a very different side to the one that lost to Collingwood, but they were only a week apart. They’re a $1.24 bet if you fancy it…

Then comes Geelong’s chance to put the disappointment of their defeat at the hands of new ladder leaders Port Adelaide behind them. Fortunately for Cats fans, this one is shaping up to be a one-sided affair, with Richmond struggling to find form in the 2014 season. And the history is very much with Geelong: they’ve won the last nine meetings between these sides, and the overwhelming majority of their games historically. Richmond are getting odds of $4.75 to buck the trend and win it, while Geelong are a $1.19bet.

And you can finish your weekend’s AFL entertainment with Fremantle against West Coast – a Western Derby that could definitely go either way. You have to go back to 2012 for the last West Coast victory in a Western Derby, but both these sides have seen inconsistent results so far this campaign, and the win could easily go to either of them. There’s a lot riding on it in terms of the ladder and in building for the rest of the season, not to mention the bragging rights. Fremantle are the favourites at $1.55, whilst you’ll get odds of $2.50 on a West Coast win.
