AFL: Hawks Looking For NAB Challenge Win At $1.13

February 12th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

It’s been fashionable over the past few years to talk about momentum in sport, and we wonder if that has been part of Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson’s thinking going into their NAB Challenge meeting with Brisbane. Certainly, the Hawks will be fielding a strong squad for Thursday’s game – a squad that includes 13 players who took the field in last year’s Grand Final. The Hawks will be eyeing a win to take forwards towards the first game of the season proper, but there’s one eye on the future, too, with some young talent making it into the squad, too, along with former Saint Ben McEvoy.

Which all adds up to make Hawthorn $1.13 favourites to beat the Lions when they meet on Thursday night. Not the best start to the NAB challenge for Brisbane, who are an unlikely $5.60 to pull off a win, but their new coach Justin Leppitsch has taken the decision to include as many inexperienced youngsters as he can in the side that will meet the Hawks. With only two men in the squad with 100 games to their names, there will be some tough lessons being learned in the Lions squad against last year’s flag winners.

In terms of betting, there are some markets on Sportsbet right now that might be interesting for you: look at Hawthorn to win it by 40 or more points at $1.80, or a $2.45 bet if you think the Lions can keep it closer than that.
