AFL Odds: Bring On 2015…

October 2nd, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

An AFL Finals Series has a way of leaving us breathless, and to be honest a little rest from all the tension could be just what a few AFL fans all around the country need, especially after a season that featured some tight games and more than a few shocks. That said, the other thing that a Finals Series does is whet the appetite for more footie, and there’s no harm in taking a look ahead to the 2015 season, and having a glance over the AFL odds for next year, too…

2014 had some real highlights for us, but there’s a bit of a feeling that lots of the action was taking place off the pitch in the season. There were bucketloads of the now-obligatory social media failures by players and clubs, and probably just about the usual amount of bad behaviour from players – plenty to keep the press talking about when they didn’t want to talk about the footie, anyway. But there was great stuff to appreciate on the pitch, too. Not least the remarkable achievement of the Hawks in winning back-to-back Premierships. The Swans might not have shown up like they wanted to in the Grand Final, but they had a huge season, integrating Buddy Franklin into their side nicely in spite of the media attention, and making themselves favourites for both the Minor Premiership and the Grand Final with long winning streaks. They will likely start the 2015 season as favourites, as well – check out the AFL odds by following the link – but it’s worth remembering that they started and finished the 2014 campaign by suffering upsets. The last game was a huge disappointment against Hawthorn, but the first one was an embarrassment against GWS that Giants fans won’t be letting Swans fans forget any time soon…

But our best moment of the 2014 season wasn’t just a single moment – it was the long, incredible and unlikely barn-storming run of wins that took Richmond from nowhere into the Finals, and made us all believe in the fairytale for a little while. It goes to show that the AFL is wide open, and that the AFL odds don’t always tell the whole story – which will have pretty much every set of fans thinking that 2015 could be their club’s season. Bring on 2015!
