AFL: Odds For Gold Coast vs Brisbane And More…

April 3rd, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

There will be fans licking their lips all around Australia at the prospect of another packed weekend of AFL action – it’s as though the split Round One has created an appetite for AFL games that come in a flurry, and Round Two hasn’t quite sated the cravings. Round Three will help keep the fans satisfied, of course, and we’re turning our focus to Saturday evening here, which offers up three more games to enjoy, though you might have to flick between the two that start at ten to eight – make sure you’ve got all your Round Three odds by following the link…

First up are Gold Coast and Brisbane, two teams who will both be looking for a win. The Suns less so than the Lions, probably, but Ablett’s side will want to capitalise on the chance to pick up some points after a loss to the Dockers in Round Two. Brisbane, meanwhile, will be looking to register their first result of the 2014 campaign – and you never feel like you’re in the season until you’ve got those first points on the board. In fairness, the Lions have faced down a less-than-ideal draw in their first two games, and have been far from embarrassed against Hawthorn and Geelong. Add to that that it’s Brisbane who have won the last five meetings between these teams, and you’d think that the Lions would be sizing up a win – this is a Gold Coast team on the rise, though, and it will be interesting to see how they handle the favourites tag for the first time this season: the Suns’ odds are $1.62, whilst you’ll see $2.30 for Brisbane.

Then you’ve got a choice to make. Any game that includes Gary Ablett is probably worth a watch, but then you’ll have to either record one game of the evening’s double header or flick back and forth. It could be that it’ll only be West Coast fans tuning in to watch their side take on St Kilda – they go in as overwhelming favourites at $1.02 to maintain their unblemished record. St Kilda haven’t tasted defeat yet in 2014 either, mind you, and they won’t be keen to do so on Saturday – their odds of $14.00 tell you how the bookies see this one going, though!

And finally a big game that might see more neutrals tuning in than the West Coast vs St Kilda fixture: Geelong and Collingwood go head-to-head in a game that will tell us a lot about how the seasons of these two sides might pan out. Geelong have been looking strong in the first two games, and they have registered two wins from two, leaving them in a good spot this early on. Collingwood, meanwhile, have been the subject of a fair bit of debate – mostly as to how strong a challenge the pundits think they will be able to mount in 2014. A win over Geelong would really get the Pies moving, of course, but they go in as the $2.33 outsiders, whilst you’ll get odds of $1.60 for a Geelong win.
