AFL: Odds For Sunday’s Round 17 Games

July 9th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

Sydney Swans are a side who are finding form at just about the right time, it looks like, and they’re the side getting the shortest odds to take the minor premiership, and to make an appearance in the Grand Final. A look at the Round 17 odds will show you that they’re favourites on Saturday night to pick up the points against Carlton.

But the Swans aren’t the only side in the AFL who’ve got a great run of wins building behind them: Fremantle are busy making a claim of their own for a strong ladder finish, and they’re in action on Sunday against GWS in a game that they could hardly be at shorter odds to win. Collecting the points on Sunday could possibly see the Dockers into second spot on the ladder – Hawthorn have a potentially tricky round against Adelaide and the Power look as though they might be starting to creak under the weight of injuries. Even better for Dockers fans will be the feeling when they look ahead at their side’s next couple of games: St Kilda and Carlton will likely hold no terrors for Fremantle, and those points could see them staying competitive at the top of the ladder. The players and coaches won’t want to be looking too far ahead of course – they’ll leave that to the fans – but they will know that after those two fixtures they’ve got a couple of potentially decisive clashes against Collingwood and Hawthorn. We really are at the business end of the season, and if Fremantle mean business, it’s going to be the GWS boys who find out first this weekend.

Elsewhere, check out Essendon against Collingwood for a game that has plenty of ramifications on the ladder, with one side trying to dig themselves into the finals spots, and the other busting a gut to get there. The same probably doesn’t apply for Richmond, who will be feeling like finals footie is passing them by for 2014, but they won’t want to miss the chance to throw another spanner in the Port Adelaide machine: another loss by the Power would see them slip down right into the raging battle for those finals spots.
