AFL Odds: Saints And Blues Find Welcome Wins

It’s Saints and Blues fans with a little bit more bounce in their steps this week, after both sides scored welcome wins – but it was a win that was especially welcome for St Kilda. The Saints had been looking more than a little hapless, and languishing at the foot of the ladder, in prime position to collect the 2014 wooden spoon. That might not have changed, but we’re prepared to wager there’s a different atmosphere at the club after a demolition of the Dockers that would have warmed their fans’ hearts. It hasn’t left Fremantle where they wanted to be after the weekend, and they face the challenge of the Blues next. The Dockers go into their game against Carlton as heavy favourites, but then they were short odds against St Kilda, and we saw how that turned out, so there will be a feeling in the Blues camp that some more pain can be heaped onto the Dockers. Especially since the Carlton players will be feeling some confidence creeping back after North Melbourne let them play early on and couldn’t reel them in after half-time break.
And there will be another set of fans breathing a bit easier this week, after a tight Port Adelaide win over Melbourne that they will hope means that they bob in the top six between now and the end of the regular season instead of plummeting out of sight and wasting all the hard work they’ve done in the 2014 campaign so far. The Power are at odds of $12.00 to make this year a winning year, but the win over Melbourne will have their fans thinking that they’re still in the hunt…
