AFL Odds: Saturday Games in Round 17

July 8th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

There’s another busy Saturday in store, and lots of AFL odds to consider as we rumble into Round 17. There are a couple of games that the bookies have pegged as one-sided contests, and there are a couple that could be absolutely key to the hopes of the sides involved if they and their fans have dreams of finals footie. We’re going to have a little look at some highlights here, and we’ve got all the Round 17 odds you need to be ready for a busy weekend!

Early in the day, both Geelong and North Melbourne will be looking to pick up easy points. The Cats play Melbourne, and Geelong will feel like the points are theirs for the taking, with odds of $1.13 going into the game. It’s close at the top, and Cats fans will welcome the points, but it’s close at the bottom of the ladder, too, and if Melbourne can defy those odds and steal a win, then they’ll give themselves a little bit of a cushion from the wooden spoon spot. Especially if St Kilda continue their hapless form, and get rolled by North Melbourne. The bookies have that as the most likely outcome by a big margin, with St Kilda getting long odds of $12.00 to get the points that could drag them off the foot of the ladder.

St Kilda’s neighbours at the foot of the ladder, Brisbane, are in action Saturday, too, against West Coast, in what on paper is a much closer contest. West Coast need the points to stay in touch with the last of the finals spots, currently occupied by the Suns, who picked up a good win over Collingwood in Round 16 that will have cheered them and their fans no end. When they meet the Western Bulldogs on Saturday they have the chance to dump their opponents into the battle for last spot, but they won’t be thinking about that: the Suns have set their stall out for finals footie in 2014, and this is a good opportunity to collect some points and make that ambition a little bit closer to being a reality.

Finally, Saturday sees the ladder leaders run out against Carlton, with the Blues not being given great odds of beating the Swans: they’re a $5.75 bet to cause an upset, and beat a Sydney side that are looking like the favourites for not only the minor premiership but for an appearance in the Grand Final, too…

All those Round 17 odds are waiting for you, and check out the AFL odds for a look at the odds on the Swans to claim the pennant in 2014, as well!
