AFL Odds: The Cats Take On The Reigning Premiers
August 20th, 2014 by TJ DilferIt’s hard to pick what will be the game of the round before the battle is joined, but this weekend’s AFL entertainment features what could be an absolute cracker between the Cats and last year’s triumphant Hawks. To make it even better, they’re sitting in second and third place respectively on the ladder, which makes this a mouth-watering prelude to the finals that will be coming around pretty soon. We’ll be watching – and we’ve got all the Round 22 odds you’re going to need.
Elsewhere on Saturday, there’s what could be a nail-biter for Collingwood fans – Round 22 looks like it amounts to a make-or-break game for them, as they need to find a way to win to stay in the scrap for a finals spot, and they’ve struggled to do that in the past month or so. On Saturday they face a Giants outfit who can’t make the finals themselves, but who are coming off the back of a win last week, and who would like to spoil the Pies’ chances. The same goes for the team the Giants beat last time out: Melbourne want a win to keep themselves away from the threat of the wooden spoon, and they play a West Coast outfit who simply must win to give themselves hope of the finals.
Then on Sunday, both Fremantle and the Swans play fixtures that the odds say they should collect the points in. The Swans will likely be thinking about finding form for the coming finals campaign, while Fremantle would like the points from the Lions to ensure that the Power can’t sneak back into fourth spot and steal the double chance from them.
Finish your weekend with Richmond against St. Kilda, and see if the Richmond surge can bring them the fairytale result. The Crows could well get beaten by North Melbourne on Saturday, and if they do, then the Tigers could find the door open. That brings its own kind of pressure, of course, but we won’t be alone in rooting for the Richmond boys to pull off an unlikely surge into the finals…
