AFL Round One: Odds Against GWS

January 28th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

When Greater Western Sydney open up their 2014 season, it will be against near neighbours the Swans, and there will be plenty of Swans fans who will already be chalking up a win beside their sides’ name. But can GWS start their 2014 campaign with a bang, and lay down a serious marker for the campaign?

The odds are against, them, for sure, in their first match of the season. The Swans are a $1.04 bet to register that first win, where you’ll get a long $10.00 for a GWS win. But the GWS side is full of young talent, which along with the inclusion of some imported, proven players could well see them surprise a few teams, especially any that take them lightly. But those are long odds to overturn if you’re looking for value out of GWS, so it’s probably best to give them time to click as a side, and to get themselves up and running. Fortunately for them, they have a golden opportunity to do so when they meet Melbourne in Round Three, if they can take it. Better to look for value in the later season with a team like GWS, which is so full of untested youngsters: GWS are a long, long $501.00 to win the pennant, and they are a $101.00 to finish in the top 4. Have a look, though, if you’re feeling optimistic, at a top 8 finish at $41.00, which might be the best value you’ll get from GWS if you’re not willing to bet at $1.01 that they don’t finish in the top 8, or at $1.91 that they’ll be the side with the least wins to their credit come the end of the regular season.

Could be a tough season for GWS fans, but that could just make the rays of sunshine all the brighter for them. For all your Round One odds, and our best Round One tips, just follow the links!
