Can NSW Beat The Odds?

June 4th, 2013 by admin

Only a couple of days out from the State of Origin opener, and the Blues are looking like the longer-odds bet to chalk up that first win. The line has them giving up a point to Queensland, but they’re sitting at $1.95 to sneak Wednesday’s game. The bookies seem pretty confident that it won’t be by much of a margin ($6.50 for NSW by 10 or less, $17.00 for them to take it by 20-to-30), and if one side is going to run away with it, it’ll likely be the Maroons, but if NSW can take the fight to the Queenslanders up front, and contain their firepower, then you can’t write them off.

Those are some tough assignments, though, and the betting reflects it at the moment: Greg Inglis is a likely first tryscorer – $9.00 – ahead of Billy Slater and Brett Morris – both at $11.00. All the talk has been about what a tight contest this could be, and there’s bound to be a bit of hype in there, but a close first game sets the series up nicely, and there would be plenty of neutrals who would be happy to see a draw, which is currently a $23.00 bet. Where’s your money?
