Get All Your NRL Odds For Round 24

August 20th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

Sport is all about timing, especially over the course of a long, hard season – and they don’t come much tougher than an NRL season. The teams that will still be in contention come finals time are the teams that can find their best form at just the right time. With three rounds to go, it could be that we’re getting to that right time now – there’s no more room for bad performances, and despite what the Round 24 odds might tell you, every game is a massive challenge.

No coincidence, perhaps, that the top six teams on the ladder all have wins next to their names after Round 23. This is the time to be registering wins against the teams close to you on the ladder, and collecting points and increasing your percentage against the teams who are losing touch with the top eight. Which is pretty much what we saw in the last round – and the teams at the top will be hoping that it’s more of the same in Round 24. With the exception of a bottom-of-the-ladder clash between the Raiders and the Sharks, and what could be a great couple of games featuring the Dragons against the Titans and the Storm against the Panthers, there’s plenty of daylight on the ladder between the sides who meet in Round 24, so it’s going to be all about focusing on their own performances. It’s a cliché for a reason: keep winning at this stage and you give yourself a chance!

So the round kicks off on Thursday with a game that the Tigers need to win against the odds if they’re going to stay in touch with that last finals spot, and the same goes for the Eels, who face the tough challenge of the ladder leaders on Friday night, but who will need to find a way to win to get themselves up into the top eight. You’d think things will be easier for the Broncos, who are in that same scrap for the finals, but who host the Knights on Saturday. All those sides in the battle for the last finals spots will be watching when the Cowboys take on the Rabbitohs on Saturday night. The Cowboys are currently in seventh on the ladder, but they’re looking vulnerable if they can’t find a win against Sydney, and the odds are against them…
