Odds Against Melbourne At $3.25

February 26th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

Cats fans will be thinking that they’ve already suffered plenty of injury woe to last the whole season, after a bruising first NAB Challenge encounter with Collingwood, but there was more misery coming at the weekend, when Geelong ruckman Nathan Vardy suffered a knee injury that will most likely sideline him for the whole season. It leaves the Cats a little short of big men: without Trent West (who has gone to Brisbane), Dawson Simpson and Hamish McIntosh may be expected to shoulder the bulk of the burden. Simpson is an unknown commodity, and McIntosh is yet to make his debut for Geelong, so it will be interesting to see how that pans out…

Geelong remain favourites, however, for Friday’ NAB Challenge fixture against Melbourne. The Cats are a $1.33 bet to take the win over a Melbourne outfit that has been a team over the past couple of season that everyone likes to play against. The Dees looked good, though, in an NAB win over Richmond that wasn’t predicted by too many pundits. There’s been what looks like a change of attitude and approach at Melbourne that suggests their odds of $3.25 might be long in a pre-season game, but we’ll see on Friday night.

As always, there are some good markets for you at Sportsbet – we’ve been looking at the tribets on offer: Melbourne by at least 16 is $5.80, either side by fewer than 16 is at $2.95, and you’ll get $1.71 for Geelong by at least 16. Any of those catch your eye? There’s plenty more on Sportsbet right now, and we’ve got Round One odds for you if you follow the link, and some Round One tips, too…
