St Kilda $1.53 Odds To Beat GWS

February 27th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

The pre-season always provokes debate up and down the country, and not just about the teams that will contest the early rounds. The format is always a talking point, and we don’t expect this year to be any different, but one thing is for sure: we’ve enjoyed some great games over the course of the NAB: some brutal encounters that left lingering injury worries for Round One, and some unexpected results that defied the odds. On Saturday, St Kilda and Greater Western Sydney contest the last of the NAB Challenge fixtures for 2014, and are $1.53 favourites to finish on a win.

The Giants will want to put in a much stronger performance than last time out, when they lost to Sydney by 40 points. Josh Kelly will make his first appearance of the season in GWS colours, but top pick Tom Boyd isn’t in the squad. St Kilda star Jack Steven is out with injury, but the Saints side will include Nick Riewoldt and Lenny Hayes – both playing their first games of the season in St Kilda colours. Whilst they might be confident they can get a win against GWS, the St Kilda management will have concerns about Round One, knowing they’ll be missing both Jack Steven and Leigh Montagna, who’s serving a suspension. Both St Kilda and Greater Western Sydney are early contenders for the wooden spoon in 2014, so they’ll want to get into winning ways on Saturday night…
