Eastern horses head west for Railway Stakes
Posted on November 12th 2009 by
Two horses who failed to get the rub of the green during the spring carnival are heading west for a crack at success in the Perth summer carnival.
The Daily Telegraph reports Ortensia and Gold Salute have glory in their sights following an unlucky spring, with both possibly appearing in the $1 million Railway Stakes next Saturday.
Ortensia will appear in either this or the Winterbottom Stakes the week after, while Gold Salute is likely to run in just the Railway.
Gold Salute did well in both the Toorak Handicap and Emirates Stakes but lost out in both, while Ortensia also came close to winning in two spring races.
Jockey Corey Brown has already been confirmed for the Railway, and will partner All American, who raised eyebrows with a win in the Emirates Stakes.
Brown is a man in form having ridden Monaco Consul to victory in the group 1 Victoria Derby.
Also heading from Melbourne to Perth for the Railway are Largo Lad and Sniper's Bullet, while other horses on the provisional order of entry include Vigor and local favourite Kasabian.
The $1 million 1600m run appears at Ascot on November 21.
