Faint Perfume firm favourite for Crown Oaks
Posted on November 3rd 2009 by
Thursday's Crown Oaks is the next major stop on the Spring racing carnival ride with bookmakers installing Faint Perfume as the early outstanding favourite.
The filly comfortably won the group 2 Longines Wakeful Stakes at Flemington on Saturday and has been rated at 1.65 by Centrebet.
Closest to these odds is Silent Surround, second to Faint Perfume in the Longines Wakeful, on 7.50 with the same bookmaker.
Bart Cummings-trained Faint Perfume could be ready to dilute any disappointment for her trainer from the Melbourne Cup, where all of his three runners were unplaced.
Quoted by The Age, Cummings said of Faint Perfume: "'She's a good staying filly with a great staying pedigree.
"She performs like a stayer and being out of a staying mare probably explains that.''
Melito is currently fourth in the betting for Thursday's $1 million 2500m race, on odds of 15.00.
The Gerald Ryan-trained filly finished second to Irish Lights in the Thousand Guineas on October 14, and is her trainer's only remaining shot at group 1 success this spring.
Third in the Centrebet market is Valdemoro, on 10.00 and second in the recent Sportingbet Plate at Caulfield.
