Livia could be out of Thursday’s racing highlight
Posted on November 4th 2009 by
Filly Livia is a doubt for the Crown Oaks on Thursday after her trainer spotted a hoof problem and notified officials.
David Hayes spoke to Racing Victoria stewards about the off fore hoof problem, with a final decision expected to be made in the next few hours.
Racing Victoria vets will also inspect her ahead of Thursday’s 2500m group 1 race at Flemington.
Her withdrawal would leave plenty of punters disappointed, as Livia is on odds of 13.00 with Centrebet and among half a dozen runners seen as significant chances.
Livia was the favourite for her last start at Caulfield on October 17 in a 2000m run but was held up and ended up fifth to Run For Naara.
Firm favourite for the race is still Bart Cummings-trained Faint Perfume, who is on 1.65 with IASbet, down from 1.75.
She has fared better fitness-wise, with Racing Victoria saying: “Vets today examined race favourite Faint Perfume at her Flemington stables and found no issues with the Bart Cummings-trained filly.
“She was accordingly passed suitable for racing.”
Other odds include 9.00 for second favourite Valdemoro and 10.00 for third-choice silent surround, while Melito is tied with Livia on 13.00, having shortened from 19.00.
