AFL side St Kilda have re-jigged their squad as they prepare for a shot at the 2010 Premiership.

The joint favourites for next season's competition have delisted half back Colm Begley, who will return to Ireland after 12 months at the club.

Begley is a former Brisbane Lion who was picked up by the Saints in 2008 after he was cut by Brisbane.

However, he played only one game for St Kilda in comparison with the 29 he appeared in for the Lions.

Quoted by AFL.com, senior coach Ross Lyon said the decision had been mutual.

"Colm has expressed an interest to return to Ireland to pursue additional interests and we appreciate his efforts at the club during the past 12 months," he said.

St Kilda have also delisted wingman Eljay Connors and three rookies this week as they bid for a strong challenge next season.

SportsBet has them on AFL odds of 4.25 to win the 2010 Premiership, level with 2009 winners Geelong.

The Cats also waved goodbye to one of their players this week - captain Tom Harley announced his retirement after clocking up nearly 200 games, winning two premierships in the process.
